Two years ago,Authentic Matt Jones Jersey, the media and fans when he didn't show up for the start of training camp., Kam Chancellor shocked the Seahawks' front office
including a badly sprained knee suffered just days before Seattle's Super Bowl loss to New England six months previous. Maybe he felt like he needed more security in the form of guaranteed money and hoped to emulate the result teammate Marshawn Lynch secured the year prior.,Maybe he got some bad advice from agent Alvin Keels. Maybe he got a glimpse of his football mortality after playing through a series of injuries during the 2014 season
Whatever the reason, both losses.,Authentic Steve Largent Jersey, "Bam Bam" didn't show up at the team's headquarters at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center at all during training camp. Or during the preseason. Or for the team's first two games of the regular season
so out of character for a player who had been the team's spiritual leader; head coach Pete Carroll's proxy on the field and in the locker room.,Chancellor's absence was so puzzling
"Let's not pretend Chancellor is simply any player asking for a raise, Chancellor is the moral center. To call him a leader is a disservice to how much his teammates think of him."," I wrote at the time. "He is the heart and backbone of a historically great defensive unit. In a room full of big personalities and bigger egos
seemingly stung by the criticism he'd received. He didn't apologize for the holdout, saying he wanted to rejoin his teammates and help them work through the aftermath of the Super Bowl loss and the early-season hole. He was contrite and slightly more withdrawn with reporters than he had been prior, but regretted its lingering effects on his his teammates,A somewhat deflated Chancellor returned to Seattle after the two defeats, telling a reporter, "I was messing up that brotherly bond for the sake of money."
then turned in one of the best seasons of his seven-year career last year despite suffering through another set of injuries.,He made amends with Legion of Boom teammates Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman after the 2015 season
the final campaign covered by the four-year,Coming into the 2017 season, there were questions about whether Chancellor's banged-up body and once-bruised ego would allow him and the team to find a way to agree on another deal., $32 million extension he signed with Seattle in 2013
when the team announced a three-year,Those questions were put to rest on Tuesday, $36 million extension that should allow the now 29-year-old to retire as a Seahawk.
"It's a marvelous day for the whole organization," Carroll said Tuesday. "It's great to have him and we'll get him for the rest of his career."
silent type, Chancellor waited behind Lawyer Milloy before taking Milloy's job and earning his first Pro Bowl selection in 2011. The strong, Chancellor meshed with Thomas' barely contained freneticism to forge the best young-safety duo in the league in 2012. Joined by the loquacious, larger-than-life Sherman and the physical Brandon Browner,A fifth-round pick in Carroll's first season in Seattle, the foursome established the Legion of Boom secondary, the unit that became the team's defensive calling card and the face of a brand new contender.
Known for its uncanny ability to come up with a game-changing hit or turnover, the LOB was the driving force behind the team that faced off against the arch-rival San Francisco 49ers -- ask former Niners tight end Vernon Davis how that went -- destroyed the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII and suffered a heartbreaking defeat to the Patriots a year later in Super Bowl XLIX.
which took some outside of Seattle by surprise. Now, he's the first to receive a second extension,Chancellor was the first player of Carroll's core group to receive a contract extension, which should make players like Thomas and Sherman take notice as they enter the final years of their respective contracts next year.
another cycle," Chancellor said Tuesday. "I was one of the first ones to sign at the beginning,"The first time I signed my deal was just another process, four or five years ago. So the guys are going to be in line right after me. When their time comes up, it's going to be another cycle over and over again."
including a Chancellor type in third-round safety Delano Hill. But if Chancellor sees the youngsters as a threat, particularly after Seattle selected four defensive backs in the 2017 draft,Womens Kendall Fuller Jersey, he's not saying so. Instead,This cycle will feature Chancellor and Co. in slightly different roles, he said, it's time to put on his "coaching hat."
things that I catch on (to) from year to year, little by little -- things that I don't see,Womens Nate Sudfeld Jersey," he said. "So helping guys coming in now -- the guys behind us,"Coaching helps me learn more and more, the young guys coming in, the guys who've come from other teams -- I think it's just another step to the process of me evolving to (be) a better player."
the Seahawks' front office will look like a bunch of geniuses for the way they treated him through the years. As things stand,Womens Brandon Scherff Jersey,If Chancellor somehow becomes a better player on his second extension, his career -- and his new deal -- sends a message to the rest of the players in Seattle's locker room.
we are committed to the core guys, they have been incredible in this program,"We are committed to these guys," Carroll said. "This is just his opportunity and his turn,Womens Preston Smith Jersey, and we are pleased."
who has a difficult time showing vulnerability, Chancellor has shown an ability and willingness to use both his successes and failures as examples for teammates to follow and lessons for them to learn. That contrasts him with quarterback Russell Wilson, Thomas, whose intensity sometimes makes it hard for teammates to relate to him,Womens Matt Jones Jersey, or Sherman,Over the years, Chancellor deserves to be a Seahawk for life., whose anti-authority streak makes him too volatile to emulate. Perhaps that's why, more than any player in the Carroll era
we chatted with our counterparts at the sister site that covers the Seahawks’ opponent,Womens Arthur Brown Jersey,As we do ahead of every game, which this week is Falcons Wire. This Monday night game holds a lot of intrigue and is an important game for both teams. Here’s what Tim Weaver of Falcons Wire had to say:
Seahawks Wire: Richard Sherman will miss his first game in seven years. How does that impact the Falcons’ game plan?
and Seattle doesn’t have anybody else who can match up with him one-on-one consistently. If they decide to bracket Jones, but Jones burned the other defensive backs assigned to him, that will open up the field for the underrated Mohamed Sanu and burner Taylor Gabriel,Tim Weaver: One has to imagine they will look towards Julio Jones even more than usual. Sherman did a respectable job covering him last year, who has the speed to make backup corners look really, really bad.
The Falcons have had an up-and-down season so far. Is it just a Super Bowl hangover, or are there other factors?
First, but it’s undeniably brutal to come back from losing on that stage, and Seahawks fans — of all people — should be able to recognize a Super Bowl hangover when they see one. Seattle’s hasn’t been as dramatic as Atlanta’s this year or Carolina’s the year before, especially for a young team. By comparison, and it’s not hard to see the Falcons following that precedent. There are definitely other factors at work here, the core of this Falcons team is much younger than the Seahawks and they haven’t had as much playoff experience, so it makes it that much harder. Both of these teams should have beaten the Patriots, but thanks to bad decisions they both came up short. You can argue the Seahawks haven’t been the same ever since, though. Former Washington coach Steve Sarkisian has taken a lot of flak for his play-calling, we have to admit the Super Bowl hangover is definitely a real thing, and that’s sort of understandable given how successful Kyle Shanahan was. They led the NFL in scoring by a huge margin last year, it’s still too early to rush to judgment. It took time for Shanahan and Matt Ryan to form their bond and Sarkisian deserves at least as much time, and their average has dropped off by about 10 points per game. Sarkisian has been predictable at times and less aggressive than Shanahan in general, especially on first down. However, even if the results are disappointing so far.
last week’s win over the Cowboys was a statement game for the offense. Sarkisian was very sharp and hit Dallas exactly the way he needed to. So,Also, the jury is still out there.
but the truth is half of those were either tipped or dropped by his receivers. Ryan has also been the victim of some bad snaps and general freaky weird luck this season. In a way, it makes sense because so much went right for him last year when he won MVP,One other thing people aren’t talking about is how unlucky Matt Ryan has been this year. The box scores will tell you he’s thrown eight interceptions so far (he only had seven last year),Authentic Kendall Fuller Jersey, but it’s definitely odd how many accidents have happened so far.
especially the front seven. De’Vondre Campbell and Grady Jarrett have both stepped up. Dontari Poe was a great addition, and Takkarist McKinley is starting to blossom,The reason they’re still in this is their defense is better, so that’s offset some of the offensive problems. This is still a good team — their head just i’t quite right.
Seattle strong safety Kam Chancellor will miss the Seahawks’ game Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons and his status for the rest of the season is in doubt because of a neck injury sustained last week.
Coach Pete Carroll said Chancellor and the team are still exploring their options regarding the injury and no decisions have been made about his status for the rest of the season.
Chancellor spent much of the last week away from the team meeting with doctors to determine the severity of the injury and possible courses of action.
“We’re still looking at what our options are and we’ll continue to do that and evaluate what’s going on,” Carroll said. “We’re working very closely with him on that. That’s it.”
Chancellor is the second member of Seattle’s talented secondary to lose time due to injuries sustained against the Arizona Cardinals. Cornerback Richard Sherman was lost for the season to a torn Achilles tendon and had surgery this week. Chancellor was apparently injured late in the win over the Cardinals on a tackle of Andre Ellington with just over two minutes remaining. He stayed in for one more play before leaving to be attended to on the sideline.
Seattle will get free safety Earl Thomas back for Monday’s game against Atlanta and Bradley McDougald will slide over to replace Chancellor. McDougald started the last two games at free safety as Thomas was sidelined with a hamstring strain.
” Thomas said. “You can’t replace those guys. But the good thing about those two guys,Authentic Nate Sudfeld Jersey,“We are going to miss Sherm and Kam, they’ve taught the younger guys that are going to be in their spots. I think we are going to be very prepared and I like our chances.”
Guard Luke Joeckel (knee) and linebacker Michael Wilhoite (calf) were also ruled out for Monday’s game. Both players are expected to return to practice next week. Joeckel will have missed five games after having knee surgery in October over the team’s bye week.
Left tackle Duane Brown and defensive tackle Jarran Reed are both questionable for the game. Brown did not practice all week due to a sprained ankle while Reed was able to return to limited duty on Saturday despite a hamstring strain.
a little bit more than Duane did at this time,“Jarran got pretty good work today,” Carroll said. “We’re just kind of waiting all the way through the entire expanse of this break here to see if we can max it for Duane.”
Matt Tobin would start at left tackle in place of Brown if he is unable to play. Terence Garvin will take Wilhoite’s snaps at strong-side linebacker.
who has been on injured reserve with stinger issues of his own since mid-October,Authentic Brandon Scherff Jersey,Chancellor was third on the team with 48 tackles this season. The injuries to Chancellor and defensive end Cliff Avril, aren’t exactly the same but Carroll noted “it’s a similar kind of circumstance right now.”
Chancellor has been the intimidating enforcer of Seattle’s secondary since taking over as a starter in 2011. He has the size and strength to play like a linebacker against the run, but the speed to cover wide receivers and tight ends down the field. He’s also been a key locker room leader for the Seahawks.
29, agreed to a three-year extension before the start of the season worth up to $36 million with $25 million guaranteed. Two years ago,Chancellor,Authentic Preston Smith Jersey, Chancellor was a training camp holdout because he was unhappy with his contract.
signed in 2013,Any acrimony over the holdout dissipated and the new deal took away the chance that Chancellor would leave Seattle in free agency after this season. Chancellor’s first contract extension, is set to expire after the 2017 season.
While every game is treated as a "championship opportunity" for Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, Authentic Arthur Brown Jersey, his teams seem to play at their highest level on Monday Night Football.
Since becoming head coach in 2010, Pete Carroll-led teams are 7-0 on Monday Night Football. The Seahawks will now look to extend their streak to eight wins against an Atlanta team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year.
